It is often said that a Earth cable must be very thick, or that a litz is needed for the best result. In fact, both will help a little, but won't make a huge difference. There are actually two important aspects that underlie a good earth cable:
Good conductivity
It is important that there is good conductivity not only for low-frequency currents, but also for high-frequency currents. The better the conductivity, the lower the noise floor becomes.
Shielding
Since a cable is also an antenna that receives electromagnetic radiation (EMR), effective shielding makes a big difference.
